HC Deb 23 March 1900 vol 81 cc183-4
MR. STEADMAN

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury, as representing the Postmaster General, what will be the position of old soldiers, now employed by the Post Office, in the event of their accepting the invitation to re-enlist for one year; will they be entitled to receive half their postal pay while with the colours; and will their posts be kept open for them with a view to their return to civil employment.

MR. HANBURY

Old soldiers in the employment of the Post Office will be granted permission to join the Reserve battalions if they wish to do so, and their places will be kept open for them. The families of married men will receive separation allowance, and in the case of those in Government employment half pay will be given under the same conditions as to the families of Reservists recalled to the Colours.
