HC Deb 23 March 1900 vol 81 c174
COMMANDER YOUNG (Berkshire, Wokingham)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War why reductions are made from the pay of officers of embodied regiments of Militia who have retired from the Army with a gratuity; and whether these officers of Militia will receive the bounty which has been promised to the other Militia officers when their regiments are disembodied.

*MR. WYNDHAM

The reductions are made under Article 489 of the Pay Warrant for reasons which I have already explained to the House in my reply to a question put yesterday by the hon. Member for South-east Essex on behalf of my hon. and gallant friend the Member for Bath.* In reply to the second paragraph the officer will be granted the ordinary gratuity on disembodiment unless his service entitles him to an addition to his original gratuity on retirement; in this case he will be allowed to choose whichever gratuity is more advantageous to him.
