HC Deb 23 March 1900 vol 81 cc180-1
MR. FIELD

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Agriculture whether he is aware that foot and mouth disease is prevalent in certain districts of South I America; and, if so, what precautions will be adopted to prevent the introduction of the disease into this country.

*MR. LONG

I have seen the statements in the public press on this subject, and full investigation and inquiry is being made respecting them. In the meantime special precautions are being taken at the foreign animals wharves, with a view to minimise any danger of the introduction of disease.
