HC Deb 16 March 1900 vol 80 cc1065-6
MR. HOWELL (Denbigh Boroughs)

I beg to ask Mr. Attorney General whether he is aware that Edwin Underwood, one of the three directors of Underwood and Sons, Limited, who have recently, and for the second time, been struck off the list of contractors to the War Office for supplying defective stores under contracts, is a justice of the peace for the county of Middlesex; and whether the Lord Chancellor proposes to call upon Mr. Underwood for an explanation of his conduct in this matter.

THE ATTORNEY GENERAL (Sir RICHARD WEBSTER,) Isle of Wight

I am not aware whether the facts are as stated in the first part of the question, but if they are, the Lord Chancellor will certainly take action.

MR. HOWELL

Are inquiries being made?

SIR RICHARD WEBSTER

The question only appeared on the Paper to-day, and there has been no time to make inquiries. I could only communicate with the Lord Chancellor.
