§ MR. EMMOTT (Oldham)I beg to ask the First Commissioner of Works whether, in view of the value of the works of art which will be stored in the national museums shortly to be built, every effort will be made to reduce the danger of fire; and whether all the casings and wood fittings will be made of the non-inflammable wood now specified for all the wood fittings in ships of war.
§ THE FIRST COMMISSIONER OF WORKS (Mr. AKERS DOUGLAS,) Kent, St. Augustine'sEvery effort will be made to reduce the danger of fire in the new buildings about to be erected at South Kensington. The wood fittings and casings in those buildings will be reduced to a minimum; and the architects have been instructed to consider the desirability of applying the non-inflammable process to those fittings.
