HC Deb 12 March 1900 vol 80 cc568-9
MR. H. S. FOSTER (Suffolk, Lowestoft)

I wish to ask the First Lord of the Treasury a question of which I gave him private notice—namely, whether he is able consistently with the public interest to state to the House the essential conditions upon which Her Majesty's Government will alone entertain any peace proposal in connection with the present war in South Africa.

THE FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURY (Mr. A. J. Balfour,) Manchester, E.

Papers on this subject will very shortly be laid before the House.

MR. DALZIEL (Kirkcaldy Burghs)

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman whether there is any foundation for the report that President Kruger has addressed any communication to the Government suggesting terms of peace?

MR A. J. BALFOUR

I have already stated that Papers will be laid on the Table very shortly.
