MR. GIBSON BOWLESI beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the Amir of Bokhara has 36 ceded to Russia free of cost extensive tracts of land in the upper courses of the Oxus, to be used for farming settlements for colonists from European Russia, and has also given permission to Russia to construct military stations for its Central Asian troops, and the right to establish fortified stations on the frontier of Afghanistan.
§ *MR. BRODRICKHer Majesty's Government have received no information to this effect, but it is within this competence of the Amir of Bokhara to make such arrangements as he may deem fit on these points.
