§ MR. LAMBERT (Devonshire, South Molton)I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War what is the approximate annual cost to the Imperial Exchequer of maintaining the military garrison in the Island of Jersey.
§ * MR. WYNDHAMThe annual cost of the troops stationed at Jersey is approximately £91,000. But the whole of this cannot be considered as an additional charge on the British Exchequer arising from the defence of Jersey. If the infantry battalion were withdrawn we should still have to pay for it, and, in addition, we should have to provide a barrack for it elsewhere.
