ADMIRAL FIELD (Sussex, Eastbourne)I beg to ask the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he can now inform the House of the result of the inquiry by the Ordnance Committee into the cause or origin of the explosion of cordite in the magazine of H.M.S. "Revenge," in the Mediterranean some months ago.
MR. GOSCHENThe cause or origin of the explosion of cordite in the magazine of H.M.S. "Revenge" is still under consideration by the Ordnance Committee. On May 9th that Committee made an interim Report, in which they summarised the facts of the case, and stated that they had asked for some further information and were awaiting this and the result of certain trials that were being carried out. From the evidence then before them they were unable to assign any cause for the said explosion.
