§ MR. DALYI beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that at recent meetings of the Monaghan County Council complaints were made against the Board of Works and the Lough Erne Drainage Board in consequence of the flooding of thousands of acres of land between Ballybay, Sporthall, and Coot-hill, owing to the want of drainage of the river passing through these districts; and whether he will take steps to prevent a recurrence of the flooding of the districts mentioned by clearing an obstruction in the Dromore river near Tullyvin, and thus prevent a loss of the crops of the people holding land in the low-lying districts between Ballybay and Tullyvin.
§ MR. G. W. BALFOURRepresentations to the effect mentioned in the first paragraph have already been made by the County Council to the Board of Public Works, and the matter has been investigated by that Department, who have informed the Council that as the Dromore river is not within the area of any drainage district no steps can be taken by the Board with a view to the removal of the obstruction complained of.
