MR. HERBERT ROBERTS (Denbighshire, W.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India whether he will state what number of the 22,000 troops at present drawn from the India establishment for foreign service are British troops and what will be the number of British troops in India subject to these deductions.

The number of British troops at present withdrawn from the Indian establishment for foreign service is about 8,600. The actual number of British troops in India, allowing for these deductions, is about 61,000.
