HC Deb 17 July 1900 vol 86 c230
MR. DRAGE (Derby)

Has the Secretary of State for the Colonies any news from Coomassie?

MR. J. CHAMBERLAIN

I have received the following telegram from the Commandant at the Base at Cape Coast— Cape Coast, 17th July.—Apparently authentic information just received from Bekwai by messenger to Fumsu that Coomassie gave night signals: Relieved on 15th July. This is the date on which Colonel Will-cocks expected to carry out that relief. If the news is true, as I believe it is, I think it reflects the greatest credit on Colonel Willcocks and the forces under his command, who have been fighting under the most terrible conditions of climate and season.
