HC Deb 13 July 1900 vol 85 c1462
MR. LAWRENCE (Liverpool, Abercromby)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether there are any negotiations proceeding with reference to the abolition of the sugar bounties, either on the part of Her Majesty's Government with foreign Powers or among such Powers themselves.

*MR. BRODRICK

No negotiations on the subject are now proceeding on the part of Her Majesty's Government, but there is reason to believe that certain communications have recently passed between some foreign Governments relative to the abolition of sugar bounties. Her Majesty's Government have not yet learnt whether those communications are likely to lead to any practical result.
