HC Deb 13 July 1900 vol 85 c1453
MR. WARNER (Staffordshire, Lichfield)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if the exportation of arms to the Chinese by private firms has been stopped; and, if so, since what date.

*MR. BRODRICK

No general prohibition prohibiting the export of arms to China has been issued, but steps are being taken to watch the destination of any munitions of war sent to that country.

MR. DILLON

Then are we to understand that, in view of the position now prevailing, it is the case that British firms are at liberty to supply munitions of war to the Chinese?

[No reply was given.]

MR. DILLON

It is a monstrous outrage.
