HC Deb 27 February 1900 vol 79 c1212
MR. D. A. THOMAS

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Admiralty whether his attention has been drawn to a case heard at the Westminster Police Court on Tuesday last, where the persons summoned for creating a smoke nuisance alleged that the Government had purchased all the Welsh coal; and whether the quantity of Welsh coal consumed by the Government for all purposes during the past six months exceeded three percent, of the total production of coal in the South Wales coalfield during that period, or five per cent, of the production of smokeless coal.

THE SECRETARY TO THE ADMIRALTY (Mr. MACARTNEY,) Antrim, S.

My right hon. friend's attention has not been drawn to the case referred to by the hon. Member. As to the exact percentage of Welsh coal consumed by the Government, I am not able to give him any information.
