HC Deb 16 February 1900 vol 79 cc224-5
SIR CHARLES DILKE

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether any negotiations are going on the result of which might be calculated to modify the international position of the New Hebrides; and whether the Government will give New Zealand, which long claimed the group, or the Australian colonies the opportunity of considering any such proposed arrangement before it becomes irrevocable, as has been suggested by a unanimous resolution of the Prime Ministers of the Australian Colonies.

MR. A. J. BALFOUR

There arc no negotiations in progress in regard to the New Hebrides. The colonies interested will certainly be given an opportunity of considering any arrangement proposed in connection with the group.
