HC Deb 12 February 1900 vol 78 cc1236-7
SIR JAMES RANKIN (Herefordshire, Leominster)

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether any information has been collected by the Local Government Board as to the probable number of persons who are living in the United Kingdom, and who fulfil the conditions for receiving an old-age pension laid down by the Select Committee upon the question of provision for the aged poor, presided over by the President of the Local Government Board, and which presented its report last summer; and if so, whether he could give such information to the House; and whether the Government have any intention of proposing any legislation on the subject of the aged poor this session.

MR. CHAPLIN

Yes, Sir. Information of the character referred to has been collected by a committee which was appointed for that purpose before the close of last session. Their report has been presented and it was laid on the Table last week. It is not the intention of the Government to propose legislation upon the subject of their inquiry during this session.
