HC Deb 12 February 1900 vol 78 cc1240-1
MR. DALY (Monaghan, S.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, whether seeing that recently gentlemen differing politically from the Government have been promoted to be judges in England and Scotland, he can state when the same rule will be adopted by the Government in Ireland as that adopted by the Government in England and Scotland in this matter.

THE ATTORNEY - GENERAL FOR IRELAND (MR. ATKINSON,) Londonderry, N.

The Irish Judges are not appointed by the Irish Government, but by Her Majesty on the recommendation of the Prime Minister. The question should, therefore, be addressed to the First Lord of the Treasury.
