I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury what was the total number of guns of horse and field artillery in British hands in South Africa on 8th January last.

I understand that on the day referred to by the right hon. Gentleman there were 24 guns belonging to the batteries of horse artillery and 162 guns belonging to batteries of field artillery in South Africa—total, 186.
