HC Deb 02 February 1900 vol 78 c433
Mr. T. M. HEALY (Louth, N.)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War the number of Irish, English, and Scotch Militia Regiments which have volunteered for the front, and their respective strengths.

* MR. WYNDHAM

I shall be pleased to give the information to the hon. Member, but I must ask him to give me longer notice. Such a return takes some time to compile.

MR. T. M. HEALY

How long will the hon. Gentleman take?

* MR. WYNDHAM

The longer the notice the greater my gratitude. It is not that I grudge any time, but I have to make considerable demands on the time of the staff officers at the War Office. Questions put down at night can only be dealt with at about 10 o'clock the next morning; that is to say, at the very time when those officers are earnestly engaged on matters of national importance. I should like about four days' notice of questions which need investigation into facts of this character.

MR. T. M. HEALY

I shall be happy to give the hon. Member a still longer time in order to enable more English Militia regiments to volunteer.
