HC Deb 01 February 1900 vol 78 cc270-1
SIR CHARLES DILKE (Gloucestershire, Forest of Dean)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India what forces in reduction of the Indian establishment are now serving out of India.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR INDIA (Lord G. HAMILTON,) Middlesex, Ealing

There are at present in South Africa, in reduction of the Indian establishment, two batteries of horse artillery, three batteries of field artillery, four regiments of British cavalry, and four battalions of British infantry. Besides these, one battalion of native infantry is serving in Mauritius, and another is under orders to proceed to that colony; another is under orders for Ceylon, and another for Singapore.
