§ COLONEL MILWARD (Warwickshire, Stratford-on-Avon)I beg to ask the 842 Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can give the House any information as to the Conference recently held in Paris to further the abolition of the sugar bounties; and whether Her Majesty's Government adheres to the statement of policy contained in the instructions to the British delegates at the Brussels Conference, 1898, that it is the earnest desire of Her Majesty's Government to secure the suppression of all bounties on sugar, which they consider to be prejudicial to the general interests of the British Empire.
§ VISCOUNT CRANBORNEHer Majesty's Government have not been officially informed of what passed at the recent meeting at Paris between representatives of the French Government and delegates of Germany and Austria-Hungary. Her Majesty's Government still adhere to the statement of policy referred to by the hon. and gallant Member.
