HC Deb 11 December 1900 vol 88 c502
MR. BELL

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been called to the dismissal of a number of engine-drivers and firemen by the Caledonian Railway Company, and the hours worked by those remaining in their employ in consequence; and if he will call for a Return of the number of engine drivers, firemen, and goods guards employed at each depôt of the company and the number employed above ten hours, stating the number of hours above ten hours for each day of November.

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

The answer to the first paragraph of the hon. Member's question is in the negative. With regard to the second paragraph, if any representation is made to the Board of Trade as regards the hours of labour of any servants employed by the company, the Department will inquire into that representation.
