HC Deb 07 December 1900 vol 88 cc203-4
MR. WEIR (Ross and Cromarty)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, whether any deputation waited on the Secretary of State for the Colonies during his recent visit to Malta relative to the proposed imposition of the English language in place of Italian in Courts of Law; and, if so, will he state the nature of the reply which was given, or lay upon the Table of the House any Papers on the subject.

The SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE COLONIES (Mr. J. CHAMBERLAIN,) Birmingham, W.

The matter referred to by the hon. Member was not mentioned at my interview with the elected members. Parliamentary Paper No. 287 of 1899 gives the latest information which is available on the subject.
