HC Deb 07 December 1900 vol 88 c207
SIR JOSEPH LEESE (Lancashire, Accrington)

I beg to ask the Vice-President of the Committee of Council on Education whether a measure giving the right of appeal to teachers in cases of their alleged wrongful dismissal by managers of schools receiving grants under the Day School Code will be introduced by the Government during the session of 1901, in accordance with the statement in the House of Commons on the 2nd of August, 1900, that, having considered the question, the Board of Education are of opinion that legislation is necessary, and they hope to introduce a Bill dealing with the subject next session; and whether he will include in the Bill a power of appeal against dismissal for teachers employed in schools under the Endowed Schools Acts, 1869 to 1889.

THE VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION (SIR JOHN GORST,) Cambridge University

Her Majesty's Government intend to deal with the question of the dismissal of elementary school teachers in the session of 1901, but they cannot undertake to include the teachers of endowed schools referred to in the question.
