ASHMEAD-BARTLETTI beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether Her Majesty's Government made any representations to the Belgian Government in consequence of the result of the trial of the Anarchist Sipido, what was the nature of such representations, and what reply was received from the Belgian Government.
§ MR. A. J. BALFOURHer Majesty's Government have informed the Belgian Government that they consider the result of the proceedings in connection with Sipido to be a grave and most unfortunate miscarriage of justice, and that they have learned with great surprise and regret that the Belgian Government did not see fit to detain Sipido pending a decision as to the course they should take in view of the verdict of the jury. The Belgian Government have not yet replied.
