HC Deb 19 May 1899 vol 71 cc1030-1
MR. MACALEESE

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Agriculture whether he will consider the possibility Of now removing all restrictions upon the free passage of swine between Great Britain and Ireland; and whether he hopes to be in a position at an early date to make an announcement to this effect.

THE VICE-CHAMBERLAIN (The Hon. A. E. FELLOWES,) Hunts, Ramsey

My right honourable friend has asked me to read his answer, as follows: "I am afraid that I cannot add anything to the statements I have previously made on this subject. I do not feel myself justified in withdrawing from the Local Authorities the powers which they possess to protect themselves against the introduction of disease into their districts, but I would bring under their notice any representations which I might receive as to the restrictions imposed in particular cases."
