HC Deb 24 March 1899 vol 69 c322
MR. FIELD (, St. Patrick) Dublin

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury whether the Government receives 10 per cent. commission from the National Telephone Company, or from any other private Telephone Company; and whether it is on account of this arrangement that Government refuses to take over and make the telephone a public service?

MR. HANBURY

The present licencees pay, as all future licencees will pay, a royalty of 10 per cent. The answer to the second paragraph of the honourable Member's Question in the negative.
