HC Deb 20 March 1899 vol 68 c1329
MR. LLOYD MORGAN (Carmarthen, W.)

I beg to ask Mr. Attorney-General whether his attention has been called to the growing practice of special juries in cases which last over one day applying, with the consent of the presiding judge, to the parties to the action in course of trial before them for increased fees; and whether a common jury is entitled to make similar application for some remuneration for their services?

THE ATTORNEY-GENERAL

I am not aware that the practice to which the honourable Member refers has increased, though I know that in long cases it has been customary for the parties to agree that an increased fee shall be allowed. This can only be done by the consent of both parties. There is no precedent for a similar allowance being made in a common jury case.
