HC Deb 17 March 1899 vol 68 cc1137-8
MR. WEIR (Ross and Cromarty)

I beg to ask the Lord Advocate, having regard to the fact that the Atlantic seaboard of the Island of Lewis is not included in the limits of the North Sea Convention, 1882, will he state whether the Secretary for Scotland has yet decided to consider the advisability of amending the tenth section of the Sea Fisheries Regulations (Scotland) Act, 1895, so that it may be unnecessary to obtain the sanction of the States Signatories of the Convention in regard to the making of by-laws rendering beam and otter trawling illegal within 13 miles of those parts of the Scottish coasts which are not included in the limits of the North Seal?

THE LORD ADVOCATE (Mr. A. GRAHAM MURRAY, Buteshire)

The Government have no intention of proposing legislation in the direction indicated in the Question of the honourable Member at the present time.

MR. WEIR

Is the right honourable Gentleman aware that a similar answer was given a year ago?

MR. GRAHAM MURRAY

Yes, Sir. I am perfectly aware of that fact.
