HC Deb 16 March 1899 vol 68 cc969-70
MR. ARNOLD-FORSTER (Belfast, W.)

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Admiralty whether it is intended to modify the present armament of the seven first-class battleships, "Anson," "Benbow," "Camperdown," "Collingwood," "Howe," "Rodney," and "Sanspareil," and to provide their secondary batteries with adequate protection against the projectiles of quick-firing guns?

MR. MACARTNEY

Plans have been prepared for the reconstruction and re-armament of the vessels of the "Admiral" class, and the question is kept constantly in view; but there are many considerations which render it inadvisable to undertake these alterations at the present time.
