On behalf of the honourable Member for South Mayo, I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether a public meeting which was announced to be held at Kilmaine, county Mayo, on Sunday last, was proclaimed and attempted to be suppressed by the police; and if he can state on what grounds this interference with the right of public meeting was sanctioned by the Government, and for what reason the official notice calling for the suppres- sion of the meeting was not published until the morning of the day on which the meeting was held?
