HC Deb 13 June 1899 vol 72 cc1053-4

Order for Second Reading read.

Motion made and Question proposed— That the Second Reading of the Bill be deferred till Monday."—(Mr. J. W. Lowther.)

MR. DUNCOMBE

I object.

*MR. J. W. LOWTHER (Cumberland)

I appeal to my hon. friend not to press the objection. I may point out that, as a result of extending the time for the consideration of another Bill, the House is not now to be troubled with it, so there is sometimes a distinct advantage gained by postponement.

MR. DUNCOMBE

Of course, after that appeal, I withdraw my objection, but it must be understood that it is the last time I give way. The House ought not to delay consideration of a Bill when a day has been definitely decided upon.

Second Reading deferred till Monday next.
