HC Deb 09 June 1899 vol 72 cc770-1
MR. NICOL (Argyll)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade if a reply has now been sent by the authorities to the petition of the lighthouse keepers of the United kingdom for an increase of pay and other privileges; and, if so, if he can state to the House the terms and effect of the reply.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF TRADE (MR. RITCHIE, Croydon)

A new scale of remuneration for lighthouse keepers, as proposed by the three lighthouse authorities, has been sanctioned by the Board of Trade, and I and informed by those authorities that a circular embodying the new scale is on the point of being issued. The details of the scale cannot be conveniently embodied in reply to a question, but I shall be happy to furnish my hon. friend with the particulars, in writing, if lie desires it.

MR. NICOL

Will the right hon. Gentleman have them printed?

MR. RITCHIE

I hardly think that that is necessary. The particulars shall he distributed to those interested.
