HC Deb 20 February 1899 vol 66 c1432
MR. PROVAND (Glasgow, Blackfriars)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury, as representing the Postmaster-General, whether the Government intends to adopt the suggestion of the Select Committee on Telephones of last year, and, following the precedent of the Electric Lighting Act of 1882, pass into law a general Act under which local authorities can, by obtaining Provisional Orders, secure the right to establish telephone service in their own telephone areas?

MR. HANBURY

Yes, Sir, the Government intend to introduce a Bill based on the recommendations of the Select Committee of last year.
