HC Deb 16 February 1899 vol 66 c1115
MR. LAWRENCE (Liverpool, Aber-crombie)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether negotiations with Germany are in progress with reference to the neutral zone behind the Gold Coast; and, if so, whether he can say how soon the result may be expected; and whether the area is at present open to trade?

MR. BRODRICK

No negotiations are at this moment in progress, but there is nothing in the Agreement at present in force to prevent trade.
