HC Deb 10 February 1899 vol 66 c655
SIR CHARLES DILKE

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Admiralty what is the position as regards order for construction or construction of the large (14,000 ton) cruisers of the Supplementary Naval Programme of last Session?

THE FIRST LORD OF THE ADMIRALTY

The orders for two of these cruisers, to be built under the Supplementary Naval Programme were placed on the 21st and 24th January—one with the Fairfield Company, Glasgow, and one with Messrs. Vickers and Co., Barrow. Tenders for the remaining two cruisers will be invited shortly. They will be of a different type and smaller size.
