HC Deb 10 February 1899 vol 66 c502
MR. WARNER (Staffs., Lichfield)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War what steps the War Office are taking for providing ranges both for the regular and reserve forces; and what arrangements have been made for providing a range near Whittington Barracks, Lichfield?

MR. WYNDHAM

Of the sums taken in the Military Works Act, 1897, half a million was assigned to the provision of ranges for the Regulars and Militia, and ranges are being acquired and constructed out of that assignment. In the selection of sites, regard has been had to the interest of the Militia and Volunteers and their requirements in respect of musketry. One of the sites selected is in close proximity to Lichfield Barracks.

MR. WARNER

Can the honourable Gentleman say what site has been selected?

MR. WYNDHAM

One very near the Barracks; I cannot give any particulars as to the locality.
