HC Deb 10 February 1899 vol 66 cc674-5
MR. WILLIAM REDMOND

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland if he is aware that great distress exists in the town of Ennis from want of employment; and whether it is the intention of the Irish Government to take any steps in the matter?

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

I am informed that there is little, if any, destitution of an exceptional kind in the town of Ennis, and certainly none that cannot easily be relieved by means of the existing Poor Laws. The answer to the second paragraph is in the negative.
