HC Deb 10 February 1899 vol 66 c679
MR. CHANNING

I beg to ask the Vice-President of the Committee of Council on Education whether his attention has been called to the action of the Vicar of Burnham, Bucks, in compelling the children of the National School to march in procession into church and witness the celebration of the Holy Communion with the ritual of the Roman Mass on the Feast of the Purification of the Virgin Mary; whether he is aware that a number of parents have objected to their children being compelled to attend this service; and whether he will warn the Vicar and Managers that the grant will be withdrawn if such practices are persisted in?

SIR J. GORST

The Committee of Council are not aware of the facts stated in the first paragraph. No complaints have reached the Education Department.

MR. CHANNING

I shall repeat the Question.
