HC Deb 08 August 1899 vol 76 c172
MR. CRILLY (Mayo, N.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland if any criminal cases in the locality have come to the knowledge of the police who were drafted, in December last, to form a new police station at Elly Bay, Belmullet; and whether the authorities can now see their way clear to withdraw the police from this new station as being unnecessary for the maintenance of the peace of the locality.

THE CHIEF SECRETARY FOR IRELAND (Mr. G. W. BALFOUR,) Leeds, Central

The station was formed for the better protection of life and property, and the fact that no criminal acts have been reported since its formation shows that the main object of this precautionary measure has been attained. The station will be discontinued when the authorities consider it may be dispensed with.
