HC Deb 18 April 1899 vol 69 c1455
MR. MARKS

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury, as representing the Postmaster-General, whether he can state what, if any, part of the increase in the cost of the postal services in 1898–9 was incurred in connection with the administration of the Post Office Savings Bank?

THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF TRADE (for Mr. HANBURY)

No part of the cost of the Postal Services is incurred in connection with the administration of the Post Office Savings Bank. The whole cost of the Post Office Savings Bank is defrayed by the National Debt Commissioners.
