HC Deb 14 April 1899 vol 69 c1136
MR. BAYLEY (Derbyshire, Chesterfield)

I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer if he can devise any means, by a grant or guarantee of money out of the public funds, by which the railway freight on agricultural produce sent to our great markets can be lessened so as to enable the agriculturists to compete on better terms with agricultural produce imported from foreign countries?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Sir M. HICKS BEACH, Bristol, W.)

No, Sir.
