§ GENERAL RUSSELL (Cheltenham)I beg to ask the First Lord of the Admiralty whether the Government have in their possession any detailed charts and plans of Wei-hai-Wei and its surroundings; and, if so, whether they have any objection to a copy of these being placed in the Library for the information of Members?
§ THE FIRST LORD OF THE ADMIRALTYThe only plan of Wei-hai-Wei in our possession is the result of a rapid survey made in 1860, and the chart of the neighbourhood is equally sketchy; but I will supply copies, such as they are.
MR. GIBSON BOWLESIs there not a complete and detailed plan of Wei-hai-Wei, with all the soundings, published by Potter?
§ THE FIRST LORD OF THE ADMIRALTYThe information supplied to me is that the only plan in our possession is the result of a rapid survey made in 1860; perhaps that survey is the one to which my honourable Friend alluded.
§ MR. T. BAYLEY (Derbyshire, Chesterfield)Will the right honourable Gentleman give orders for another survey to be made?
§ THE FIRST LORD OF THE ADMIRALTYI must ask for notice of that Question.
