HC Deb 31 March 1898 vol 55 cc1485-6
MR. TULLY

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland (1) whether his attention has been directed to the conviction of Mr. Patrick Flynn, Carrick-on-Shannon, for a breach, of the Licensing Acts, which was dismissed on appeal by the County Court judge for Leitrim at the Ballinamore Quarter Sessions; (2) whether the summons was signed by Captain Darley, agent to the landlord who tried the case; and (3) whether it is usual for a landlord and his land agent to be adjudicating magistrates in the same district?

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

The facts are as stated in the first paragraph. It is true that the summons was signed by Captain Darley, but neither that gentleman nor the landlord took any part in the hearing of the case.
