HC Deb 25 March 1898 vol 55 cc920-1
MR. P. O'BRIEN

On behalf of the hon. Member for the St. Patrick Division of Dublin, I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury whether it is the fact that Parliament will be asked to vote a sum of £800,000 towards the building of the Museum of Science and Art at South Kensington under the Civil Service Loans Bill; and whether the Treasury intend to ask for an Irish equivalent of eleven-eightieths to build the Royal College of Science in Dublin; and, if not, whether such application will be inserted before 31st March?

MR. HANBURY

£800,000 is the sum inserted in the Public Buildings Expenses Bill for the Science and Art Buildings at South Kensington. The answer to the second paragraph is in the negative.

MR. P. O'BRIEN

On behalf of the hon. Member for the St. Patrick Division of Dublin I beg to ask the Vice-President of the Committee of Council on Education whether it is proposed to build a new College of Science in Dublin; and whether it will be placed under Irish control?

SIR J. GORST

The question of building a new College of Science in Dublin is under the consideration of the Committee of Council, but no decision has yet been arrived at.
