HC Deb 03 March 1898 vol 54 cc476-7
MR. C. W. R. COOKE (Hereford)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War whether, in the contemplated additions to the strength of the Army, the Government would consider the claim of the old 36th, or Herefordshire Regiment, now the 2nd Battalion of the 29th, or Worcestershire Regiment, to become a double battalion regiment by the addition of one of the new bat talions, with a local depôt at Hereford, and to be reinstated as the County Regiment?

MR. BRODRICK

As already slated in Parliament, it is intended to use the new battalions for the purpose of converting three of the present two-battalion regiments into four-battalion regiments. It will, therefore, not be possible to act on the suggestion in the Question.
