HC Deb 03 March 1898 vol 54 cc453-4
SIR JOHN LENG (Dundee)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what progress has been made with the consolidation of the Factories and Workshops Acts; and whether there is any prospect of a consolidating Bill being introduced in the present Parliamentary Session?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir M. WHITE-RIDLEY,) Lancashire, Blackpool

I explained, in replying to a question on this subject last Session, that experience of the working of the Act of 1895 had shown that amendment would have to precede consolidation; and I am afraid I see no prospect of my being able to introduce a general amending Bill at present.
