HC Deb 09 June 1898 vol 58 c1176
SIR R. REID (Dumfries Burghs)

I beg to ask the Lord Advocate whether, under the existing law, it is competent to dissolve a poor-house combination and sell the poor-house in cases where all or the majority of those concerned desire it; and if it is not possible under existing law, if he will consider the propriety of providing for such cases in the Bill now before the House?

THE LORD ADVOCATE

Under the existing law there is no power to dissolve a poor-house combination, and even assuming the propriety of such dissolution, it seems to be outside the scope of the Bill in question, which deals with settlement and removal only.
