HC Deb 14 July 1898 vol 61 c949
SIR T. ESMONDE (Kerry, W.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland if he is aware that in the proposed local government division of county Wexford, Rosbercon, a suburb of New Ross, heretofore in county Kilkenny, is now added to the county of Wexford; if he is further aware that heretofore the counties of Wexford and Kilkenny jointly bore the charges on the bridge connecting New Ross with Rosbercon, which bridge benefited both counties equally; whether the proposed assignment of Rosbercon to county Wexford will in any way affect the incidence of these charges; and whether he will take steps to secure that the arrangement entered into by the grand juries of Wexford and Kilkenny in the past for the joint payment of the expenses of this bridge will be continued after the passing of the Local Government (Ireland) Bill?

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

This is one of many cases in which existing county charges will be adjusted following upon any alteration of county boundaries.
